WHY SPECIAL TESTS FOR GI, CFS and STRESS ?

Salmonella spp.

GASTROINTESTINAL PROBLEMS

Bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine is a relatively common condition that can be present for years before it is detected. That's because despite overuse of antibiotics, antacids, and other medications capable of imbalancing the gut flora, many physicians don't test their patients for SIBO (done with H2 test, see previous pages)).

Instead, people with chronic digestive problems such as gas, bloating, diarrhoea, and/or constipation are told they have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) when the underlying problem is actually small intestine bacterial overgrowth. Given that IBS is the number one gastrointestinal diagnosis, bacterial overgrowth could be greatly underdiagnosed.

This also counts for PFPS (Post Food Poisoning Syndrome). Patients might have long term or even life-long effects after a severe food poisoning and are often diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome". And although gastroenterologist and biomedical scientist installed officially the term PI-IBS (post-infectious IBS), further investigations do not take place... or just very rarely.
One reason is of course the contradiction between the vage diagnosis "IBS" and the specific diagnosis of "PI-IBS", where it is accepted (and sometimes proven), that a previous bacterial infection is causing the symptoms.

One can say that conventional medicine very often fails the suffering "IBS" patients and it seems to be that most physicians prefer to put the long-term sufferers on anti-depressants rather than investigate further.

Now alternative/complementary medicine..."You have Candida"
"You have Leaky Gut"
"You have parasites"
"Avoid wheat and dairy"

Yeah, right! No wonder that patients are utterly disappointed by both sides - allopathic and complementary.

These patients probably had already their invasive examinations (colonoscopy, Barium meal, sigmoidoscopy, endoscopy, etc.) and then turned to either weird or at least very questionable "alternative tests" (mainly for allergies and/or intolerances):
  • Life and dry blood analysis
  • VEGA, QUANTUM, BICOM test machines
  • applied kinesiology
  • York Test
etc.

In short: they trust the diagnosis of a practitioner, who is not allowed to diagnose!... They trust the result of some funny machines, which cost a couple of hundred pounds. And then they have to follow the most restrictive diets for a long term (dangerous!) and - of course - need to take a big box of supplements (dangerous!)

These patients are treated without having a proper diagnosis!

CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME and related disorders

CAUSES

The cause of CHRONIC FATIGUE is not known and there are no reliable tests available for a clear diagnosis (except exclusion tests or specific tests for pathogens).
The latest research/findings indicate, that bacteria and (especially) viruses play a major role.

There are some clear connections:

GLANDULAR FEVER is triggered by the Epstein-Barr-Virus (EBV)

POST VIRAL SYNDROME ... the word explains it all

some researchers believe to have found a connection to parasitic disorders (more research is necessary)

In some reports Brucellosis, caused by the bacteria Brucella melitensis, was connected with Chronic Fatigue.

The Journal of Clinical Virology reported a trial (25 patients) who were treated with valganciclovir, an antiviral drug often used in treating diseases caused by human herpes viruses (including cytomegalovirus, Epstein-Barr-Virus, and human herpes virus-6)The Enterovirus was found in many Chronic Fatigue sufferers. Enteroviruses are very common, second only to the common cold viruses as the most common viral infections in humans. Most people who are infected with an enterovirus have no symptoms at all.

Activities of "latent viruses" from the Herpesviridae family (Epstein-Barr-Virus, EBV, the cause of Glandaluar Fever and also CMV, Herpes Zoster, Herpes Simplex, Shingles) can cause severe health problems, which are difficult to identify and diagnose. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Irritability, Migraines, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Depression... just to mention a few. What happens in your body is a decline of immune responses - the immune system is overworked -which can lead to imbalances in your microbial community. Result: more and more health problems.

Other Causes:

Blood pressure abnormalities

An abnormal response from the central nervous system
